This study delves into the diplomatic relations between the Mamluk Sultanate and the Ottoman Empire, offering a historical analysis. It examines the inception of diplomatic relations between the two entities up until the collapse of the Mamluk Sultanate.
Throughout this period, diplomatic agreements were commonly utilized to resolve disputes, with both states employing various methods and measures, such as asylum applications, alliances, the exchange of diplomatic messages, and the gifting of envoys. These practices relied on established diplomatic institutions. However, negotiations often adhered to diplomatic norms prevalent in the Islamic world, although at times, tense atmospheres and even military clashes arose due to power dynamics, particularly among the Mamluks, who often found themselves in confrontation with expansionist powers encroaching upon their borders. This transitioned the diplomatic atmosphere from one of calm to one of tension, ultimately leading to conflicts that contributed to the decline of diplomatic tranquility.
