Abstract

Satire has an important place in ancient and modern literature, being considered a form of expression. The aim of this study is to present how satire is embodied in Jabar Jamal Gharib's novel Zebra, a Name for My Tomb. When an author combines harsh criticism with humor, he paints it into a literary text, saying that his main goal is always criticism first and laughter second as an effective means of expression. It aims to show the bitterness of life, the shortcomings of society and the wrong behavior of its individuals in an interesting comedic way. Against those who deviate from the norms, violate the proper rules of society and spread injustice.

Kurdish novelists have resorted to satire at various stages. As a contemporary novelist, Jabar Jamal Gharib has been able to use satire to enrich the artistic and semantic structure of his novel through satire and produce a creative novel. In addition, the novelist fills the space of the text with doubts and questions, cracking between the sacred joints. In this way, he wants to unveil the ugly phenomena and misery of society through a satirical form.
