In order to differentiate PE100-RC pipes from PE100, this study examines four distinct kinds of high-density polyethylene (HDPE) pipes (A, B, C, and D) that are utilized in Kurdistan's water distribution network. While pipes B, C, and D were PE100-RC, pipe A was PE100. By using tensile and Charpy impact tests to determine notch sensitivity, the objective was to help designers and end users choose the right materials. According to ISO 179, the Charpy impact test was conducted on all four pipes, both with and without a 2 mm deep V-notch. The V-notch in pipe B absorbed more energy than the others at 23°C, suggesting that it cracked with greater energy and was less sensitive to notches than the PE100 pipe, which was more susceptible to cracks at room temperature. In notch-free tests, the energy absorbed by each pipe was roughly the same. At 23°C, tensile tests were performed on pipes A and B, both with and without notches. The single-edge notched beam (SENB) method and a razor blade were used to make the notches. In accordance with ISO 6259, the tests were conducted at 25, 50, and 75 mm/min. The findings indicated that pipe A was more elongated upon break than pipe B. The final tensile strength, however, differed according to the testing pace. These results imply that Charpy impact testing at 23°C with a 2 mm V-notch can successfully differentiate PE100-RC and PE100 pipes. The choice of appropriate pipes for Kurdistan's water supply system can be guided by this information.
