Economic impacts of border crossings Haji Omran in Erbil Province : A Study in Economic Geography

Abstract

This study aims to introduce the Haji Omran International Land Border Gate and its economic impacts. The gate is located in northeastern Erbil province. It is one of the most important official land border gates between the Kurdistan Region and Iran The study relied on descriptive method, and the data was obtained through fieldwork, in addition to showing statistical data on the value of trade exchange volume, types, quantities and values of imported and exported goods, customs revenues, passenger movement through the gate, and the impact of the gate on the development of agriculture and industry and job creation, the results of the study showed that the gate has a direct and positive impact on increasing economic and commercial activities, developing the industrial and agricultural sectors and creating job opportunities in the study area, the geographical location of the port gives it strategic importance in strengthening relations between the Kurdistan Region and the Islamic Republic of Iran, making it an effective logistics center for the movement of goods and passengers.
