The Environmental dimensions in the Story Texts of Kurdish Education Textbooks (Grades 1–4)

Abstract

Ecological criticism, as an integrated critical method, addresses environmental issues—an increasingly essential topic for modern humanity. Particularly for children, it is crucial that they become familiar from an early age with ecological concepts, foundations, and values, and that they learn methods for environmental protection. This research, titled “The Environmental dimensions in the story Texts of Kurdish  Education Textbooks (Grades 1–4),” is based on the Kurdish language textbooks within the national education curriculum and investigates these materials through both theoretical and practical lenses.The main objective is to highlight the importance and role of ecological criticism within the content provided by the Ministry of Education, especially in the foundational stage of primary school—Grades 1 through 4—a critical developmental phase for children. The study discusses the concepts, history, and approaches of ecological criticism, aiming to identify its components (type, foundation, and value) within the children’s stories found in the textbooks.These Kurdish language textbooks contain numerous narrative texts that incorporate environmental themes. Using an ecocritical method, the research analyzes these texts and then employs statistical analysis to assess the frequency and presence of ecological elements (types, foundations, and values). The study concludes with a set of findings aimed at advancing educational and pedagogical practices through an environmental perspective. Finally, all references used in the study are listed.
