The role of Mustafa Barzani In the internationalization of the Kurdish issue : between the years (1960-1976)

Abstract

Mustafa Barzani led the longest Kurdish revolution in southern Kurdistan (1961-1975). To continue this revolution, he worked to use human resources to gain international support for the Kurdish cause. By establishing a special department for the revolution to coordinate the Kurdish leadership’s external relations with international institutions such as the United Nations and its affiliated institutions. In addition to establishing contacts with the international press to convey the picture of the conditions and demands of the Kurdish people to influential international centers and the international community, in order to ensure political, military and humanitarian support for the revolutionaries and civilians. Although the Kurdish revolution was not entirely successful militarily as a result of international conflict and conspiracy, it was the opposite politically, because Mustafa Barzani was able to succeed in placing the Kurdish issue in an international framework twice, in 1963 and 1974.
