Abstract

This study analyzes the effective response within the framework of Relevance Theory. It reformulates a new description of the relationship between utterances and the interpretation of pragmatic meaning. Spierber and Wilson believe that the process of communication is not only linked to the encoding and decoding of messages, but also the concept of mental fields for communication into the process of interpreting meaning. This theory relies on the strength of the linguistic stimulus, how a strong speech stimulus is produced by one individual and perceived by another. An effective response is a quick, short, and interesting response that often silences the other person. Communication theory is closely related to effective response, because effective response by the speaker and listener is a linguistic stimulus, and communication theory is based on the amount of task on speakers. Effective responses are based on strong action and reaction, so many responses deviate from the principles of Grace's cooperation in order to be effective, thus blurring the relationship, so it puts a lot of work on the recipient to find the relationship. The purpose of this study is to answer the following questions: Are there a relationship between action and reaction to effective response, or not? According to this theory, how do we choose the right environment to respond? Finally, we concluded that any stimulus with greater perceptual effect is more relevant, and again it becomes clear that relationships can be found between utterances due to knowledge of the speaker's actions.
