Metaphorical Symbols in the Paintings of the Artist Qarani Jamil

Abstract

Metaphors are among the central concepts in the world of art, due to their significant role and influence. This research, entitled Metaphors in the Paintings of the Artist Qarani Jamil, investigates the philosophical, historical, and artistic dimensions of metaphor. The study covers the period from 1978 to 2016, focusing on the geographical context of Erbil Province and examining the use of symbols and metaphors in the paintings of Qarani Jamil. The study begins by defining the key concepts and terms—specifically,“symbol” and “metaphor "from the perspectives of language, philosophy, and artistic practice. In the third part, the research methodology is explained, where the researcher analyzes four of Qarani Jamil’s paintings using the analytical descriptive method to uncover the hidden meanings and messages within them. Finally, Section 4 presents the results and conclusions of the study.
