Russian Formalist Criticism in Kurdish Poetry Criticism: A Case Study of (Nizar Salman Tahir's) Studies

Abstract

This research is a critical evaluation of how the critical foundations of Russian Formalism are used and understood in Kurdish poetry criticism. The study evaluates two different works by "Nizar Salman Tahir": the book "خوین دهمبێزا بەفرێدا" (2004) as a non-academic work, and the research "Russian Formalist Critical Theory: Structure and Foundations" (2017) as an academic work. For this purpose, the research employs an analytical-comparative approach within the framework of meta-criticism, to analyze Nizar's critical discourse and reveal contradictions between theory and practice. The results show that despite the passage of 13 years between the two works, some problems of understanding and errors in using formalist concepts have persisted. The research identifies the factors that led to these problems, including: the absence of original formalist sources in Kurdish and problems with critical terminology in Kurdish. Finally, the research presents a set of recommendations for improving the understanding and use of formalist foundations in Kurdish poetry criticism.
