Advancements in Rapid Diagnostic Techniques for Infectious Diseases in Clinical Microbiology
##plugins.themes.bootstrap3.article.main##
Abstract
This study investigates the effectiveness of rapid diagnostic techniques in clinical microbiology, focusing on their speed, accuracy, and impact on patient outcomes. Conducted in a private laboratory in Sulaymaniyah City, Kurdistan Region of Iraq, the research involved 65 clinical samples tested using both traditional culture-based methods and rapid diagnostic approaches, including conventional PCR and RT-PCR. The findings reveal that rapid diagnostic methods significantly reduce turnaround time, with results delivered in an average of 3.03 hours compared to 58.07 hours for traditional methods. The research concludes that while rapid diagnostic techniques offer substantial benefits, there is a need for continued research to address the identified limitations. Recommendations include the development of improved diagnostic algorithms, better sample processing protocols, and enhanced training for laboratory staff. Future studies should explore the application of rapid diagnostics in different regions and settings, especially in resource-limited environments, to ensure their effective use in the global effort to control and prevent infectious diseases.
