The status of Doctors and Medical sciences During the reign of Shah Abbas I: 1587 - 1629

Abstract

This research, which revolves around (the status of doctors and medical sciences during the reign of Shah Abbas I, 1587 - 1629), is an attempt to identify the status of doctors and medical sciences during the reign of Shah Abbas I, which is of particular importance in view of the important role that doctors of this period played in Many areas, even in political decisions.

 This study emphasizes the status of doctors and how patients were treated, while learning about the state of hospitals in this period (1587 - 1629). Although medical sciences were based on classical logic and tradition before the reign of Shah Abbas I, they developed somewhat during his reign. Medical sciences in Iran, like other fields such as architecture and art, have not achieved great achievements but have stagnated due to religious fanaticism, the spread of superstitions, the personal and financial insecurity of doctors, and the increase in the number of inexperienced doctors.

The research consists of five sections. The first section focuses on a general overview of medical sciences in Iran during the years (1501-1587), while the second section focuses on doctors and medical institutions during the reign of Shah Abbas I (1587-1629).

Then the third section sheds light on the types of work and the medical profession, the fourth section discusses the study of medical sciences and treatment of patients during the reign of Shah Abbas I, and the fifth and final section focuses on the medical centers (hospitals) during his reign.
