Abstract

The present study, titled (the meaning of the image of the child in modern poetry in the Bahdinan region) adopts both descriptive and analytical approaches to examine the concept of portrayal and its theoretical significance and function in poetry, particularly in relation to representations of childhood. It explores how the image of the child is portrayed and reflected in selected works of modern Badini poets. The study seeks to address the following research questions: Can imagery in poetry serve as a medium to address children’s needs? Are children portrayed as active individuals within the poetic and societal context? How do modern Badini poets depict children in their poetry?

Poets frequently employ images of various objects and animals in the titles and content of their poems to enrich their thematic expressions. Similarly, children, as members of society, have emerged as significant poetic subjects. The findings reveal that modern Badini poetry places considerable emphasis on representing children, often drawing upon their nature, characteristics, and presence to construct symbolic and emotional imagery. Children are depicted in diverse contexts, including displacement, war, social unrest, orphanhood, and patriotic engagement. Their attributes—such as age, innocence, and resilience—are symbolically used to convey deeper meanings. This study presents and analyzes several of these representations.
