Abstract
Surname in Persian and Kurdish languages a semantical perspective surname is a linguistic phenomenon which can be interpreted by semantics and pragmatics.
This research is an attempt to clarify surname in Kurdish and Persian languages. The aim lies in showing similarities and differences between these two languages. Apart from introduction and conclusions, the paper consists of two chapters.
Chapters one theoretical background defines surname and some related terms: noun, name, proper name and tries to figure out some common types of surname in both Kurdish and Persian languages.
Chapter two sheds light on some semantical aspects of surname, their functions and social use. The chapter explains the common patterns of surname in both languages semantically and pragmatically. The paper ends with some conclusions followed by the list of reference
