Rural Development Capabilities in the Harir Plains Region

Abstract

Rural development is considered as one of the main development strategies in rural
areas in order to achieve economic and social prosperity. The aim of this study is to
highlight the geographical (natural and human) capabilities of the rural area of Harir
Plains as one of the important areas of Erbil Governorate and the agricultural areas
of the Kurdistan Region. The importance of this study is that it focuses on an
important aspect which is the rural ،which is considered as the source of food
acquisition and food security in the world ،as well as the uncovering of the natural
and human characteristics of the study area ،using descriptive and regional analysis
methods and at the same time the use of geographic information system (GIS) to
create maps and Excel programs for the analysis of data and information.
The study found that urban dwellers made up 59.4% of the total population and rural
residents numbered 18,965 people, which is 40.6% of the total population of Harir
Plains. The rural density in the Harir Plains region is 64.4 people/km2, but the
northeastern part of the region is 64.4 km2
